“Bidding”

“Bidding” is an oil painting on a 24”X36” canvas created in 2018. This is a personally owned painting, as it is still one of my favorites pieces I’ve ever done. It hangs right above my workspace and is the center of attention.

The inspiration came from a dream I had about being in an art class and painting a very dramatic scene involving a woman with deer antlers. I actually first wrote this into a short story, but I felt compelled to paint it instead. The dark figure behind the woman is a representation of someone looming over her and holding her back from herself. I took inspiration from the dementors in Harry Potter to create this character. It took me a few months to completely finish this piece, but it was healing for me to create this.
